The Alessi House

We sell a lot of great products at Didriks, and are fortunate enough to have our own photo studio where we can capture images of those products whenever we want. Studio shots are great for showcasing an image clearly and simply, but we often find that there's just something about lifestyle images that really bring a product to life. From time to time, we seek out opportunities to bring our products to off-site locations, where we can build them into a landscape that suits their design style, and really showcase them in all their glory. Recently we had just such an opportunity to work with Tom Murdough of Murdough Design on a recent project of his, so aptly called ‘The Alessi House.’ The Alessi House was a renovation project that Tom and his team worked on with a family in Wellesley. The existing house was a simple colonial with a small garage, and the owners brought Tom in to give them some additional space, and many desired updates. After much planning and work, Murdough Design added significant square footage to the property, through the addition of a great room, a master suite, an expanded kitchen and some other reconfigured space. They very much brought a contemporary feel to the traditional colonial architecture, and crafted a really stunning interior.

We brought a great collection of mostly kitchen-related items to the Alessi House, both from Didriks and Local Root. Below we featured the Alessi "Moka Alessi" Espresso Coffee Maker and the “Dear Charlie” Banana Holder, alongside four Alessi Dressed Teacups.

We also featured this Alessi Pepper Mill, which is an item we just recently started carrying at the Local Root store, and it's a beautiful statement piece, in addition to being a functional pepper mill. Here it's paired alongside the Alessi La Stanza Dello Scirocco, which is a really dynamic, unique item, and very quintessential Alessi. While you could use it for a myriad of purposes, it works well as a fruit bowl.

On the stove we showcased the Alessi Pots and Pans Cookware collection, which has a pretty traditional look and feel, but a more design-inspired 3-prong handle. On the counter to the side, we included the Alessi Mediterraneao Kitchen Box Set, which makes for really artistic and beautiful counter-top storage.

On the kitchen island, we placed a stunning John Boos Black Walnut Cutting Board (currently only available in-store at Local Root), with a David Mellor Black Handled Chopping Knife on top, and two Revol Oil and Vinegar Cruets.

In another part of the kitchen, we showcased a few Culinaruim pieces, which are produced locally on the North Shore out of recycled materials. The very contemporary feel fit this kitchen well, and the muted gray tones matched perfectly.

Shown here is the Culinarium Utensil Holder in Gray, filled with the Alessi 5-Piece Kitchen Utensil Set and a Alessi Risotto Spoon. We also included two Culinarium Classic Salt Cellars with scoops in both White and Gray

We brought along this gorgeous iittala Sarpaneva Cast Iron Pot, which was a stark contrast to the polished stainless steel of the Alessi cookware, but it still managed to fit the landscape beautifully. Next to that was this adorable Fried Egg Apron made for little chefs, which is part of a kids apron collection we feature in-store at Local Root.

To satisfy any and all knife-necessitating projects, we brought this Friedr. Dick Magnetic Knife Block, which was filled with assorted David Mellor Black Handled Knives. Next to it, a colorful Revol Tajine with Lid in Red.

Because the weather was quite lovely, we also brought along some outdoor pieces, which we set-up in the beautiful yard space. Here we filled a Spencer Peterman Black Walnut Tray (in-store at Didriks only) with an Alessi Fruit Basket Teapot and the Alessi Fruit Basket Sugar and Cream Set. The pillows in the background were Libeco Home Albany Linen Pillows in Celadon and Flax.

To pull it all together, we set-up this Barlow Tyrie Equinox Rectangular Extending Table and four matching Barlow Tyrie Equinox Stacking Armchairs with teak armrests, and set it with some of our favorite tabletop pieces.

It looked simple, modern and welcoming - just like the rest of this stunningly restored home.

Thanks to the Alessi family and Tom Murdough for letting us be a part of this truly magnificent setting. Sending best wishes to the Alessi family as they settle in to their new home!
